How did you try to open Triplea saved games. As you may have found out just double clicking the file doesn t work. Using open with won t work either because Java programs never show up in the list of programs.
To use a Triplea saved game file you need to put the file into the savedGames folder in the Triplea directory then open the saved game from within Triplea. That should work.
As for the firewall issue, if you configure your firewall to allow Triplea to use port 3300 you should be good to go. That s the default port, however you can choose whatever port you like. But if you do decide to use something other than 3300 you need to change the default in Triplea to match it. ZP.

Axis Allies - old strategy game 1998 - question

Friends.
I found in my old collection of CDs the turn-based strategy Axis Allies by Hasbro Interactive from 1998. During my searches in game Internet sites I found also the fact that Axis Allies Iron Blitz edition existed.
Could anybody of knowledgable experienced gamers explain me, please, what are the differences between those two editions. I have Axis Allies only. Is it possible to download Axis Allies Iron Blitz somewhere at least demo.

Hello Big Panzer,
I seen this original 1998 version of AXIS ALLIES PC game for sale on e-bay before Christmas and was thinking of buying it. Is it any good. Obviously I know the graphics will be a bit basic but your comments would be appreciated and if you could post a few screen caps it would be very much appreciated.
I still love playing the original COMMAND CONQUER games on PC and they are now 10 years old but have stood the test of time well.

Orginal was buggy as heck - planes had a tough time landing on carriers; 1 in 5 times a plane would decided it couldn t land on a carrier.
Made the Pacific war a bit more challanging.

Hi, Potsdamer Platz.
I played Axis Allies several years ago and as far as I remember it is based on original paper table game under the same name. So the computer graphics is identical to paper game as well as land, air and sea units. And you can command five nations USA, USSR, UK, Germany and Japan, trying to defeat the enemies and conquer their lands, starting since 1942. So, of course, as you can imagine the graphics is not excellent even for 1998 but quite nice as the computer copy of board game and the amount of types of the units is very few.
So if you prefer much more correct and detailed games in historical, technical and geographical aspects - take Heats of Iron II, for example.
But as far as I remember I liked Axis Allies and played a lot of time because the game was quite interesting in some degree as chess or cards

Epaminondas. I don t remember some problems with planes and carriers as I played the game many years ago and almost didn t play Pacific company But may be patch 1.33 could fix that problem..
Does anybody know something about A A Iron Blitz version.

Thanks BigPanzer, I will certainly give it a try. The game is pretty cheap now you can pick it up brand new on e-bay for around 5 10 so I reckon it s worth the risk.
Graphics are not so important in a strategy game like this so that doesn t put me off.
Yes, Potsdamer Platz, graphics is not important in this case especially taking into consideration that A A is the copy of the board game in all details.
But you should switch off all 3D-graphics properties of your modern video card to play the game otherwise you will see nothing, only black screen. I was wondering why I could play A A in 1998 on my old 486 computer but I couldn t play it now on Pentium IV and later I found the reason.

I never played the PC version, but I did have the original board game. It came in a HUGE box and the board was a three-paneled map of the world. Fairly elaborate, with little replicas of soldiers, tanks, planes, etc. with which you could mount your conquest of the world.
As I recall, the game was titled in favor of the Allies -- they had the United Kingdom, America and the Soviet Union from which to draw military and economic power. The Axis had only Germany and Japan with no mention of Italy or the smaller nations. Thus it was two against three.
Still, I was always Germany and even managed to conquer Moscow.

The PC game was IMHO nowhere near as good as the board version. The PC version was way too much simplified IIRC.
Nowadays I play Hearts of Iron II; I ve had it for ages now and play it regularly.
I downloaded Iron Blitz last night and it s much better than the original.
Still I prefer HoI2.

This is not easy, too Moreover, I ve read somewhere that this is one of the most hard problem in the game - to conquer Moscow. There is a supposition that game programme code was made in such way to make USSR defeat very hard probably, Russian programmers participated in the development of the game
As for me - I prefer outstanding Hearts of Iron II also where almost all world nations are presented, but much more simple A A is quite fun to play still.
I also didn t find any significant differences between A A and A A: Iron Blitz
